Miss Nellie Gates Brown
Robert W Long Hospital
Indianapolis Indiana
Mjr dear Miss Brown,
You are listed as having had special experience in the treatment of
and head wounds generally. We are developing a hospital for the treat-
ment eyes of head and neck wounds of all kinds and would be glad to place you on
the list of nurses available for this purpose if you are not already promised
to some other form of service.
If you have not sent in your physical examination please do so at once
forwarding with the blank the information as to whether or not you wish to
be assigned to this special hospital, Base Hospitla # 115. Will you also
start your imminity treatment immediately.
It is not likely that this hospital will be called into active service
for several months but there may be a sudden need for these specially
trained nurses and we wish to be ready for any emergency.
Miss Mary Coonahan of the Mass. Charitable Eye and Ear Infirmary is
assisting us in organizing the personnel of this hospital but the chief
nurse will be appointed from the Army Nurse Corps.
I enclose a circular of information whichtells you of the equipment
needed and what part of this is provided by the Red Cross. May I suggest infor-
mation, you retaining the data until asked to make application for the passport
that follow carefully the instructions regarding your passport
Awaiting your reply, I am
Very truly yours
Director Department of Nursing
