My dear Mrs. Braden:
Our office has had inquiry from Miss Sallie J. Bryant, who was
formerly in charge of the TB Society here. Miss Bryant is now 80 years
of age and is retired. Her birthdate is June 20, 1876.
Miss Bryant stated she was with the nurse corps in Siberia from
March 1919 to February 1920. She was a Red Cross nurse at that time and
was loaned by the Red Cross to the Army. There has been to date, as far
as we know, no pension for such nurses as they were not considered an
integral part of the army. Miss Bryant stated that some friends of hers
told her there had been a bill passed giving retirement pension to these
Red Cross nurses. We have received no such information. Miss Bryant's
address is 2708 Monterey Street, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Can you secure for us any information in regard to pension or
compensation for nurses in the category in which Miss Bryant was? We
do feel very sorry for her as she does not come under any retirement at
all. Your kind assistance will be appreciated.
