a the lan (Peop Pri ) Ali November 24, 1931. Miss Melba B. Buckland, 950 Post St., San Francisco, Gelif. My dear Miss Buckland: You were approved for Home Defense enrollment in the Red Cross Nursing Service on October 14, 1931, and on the same date we mailed you, under-separate cover, your Red Cross Home Defense appointment card and badge, whics ape.your credentials as a Red Cross nurse, these were sent to the above address, Nearly six weeks have elapsed and we have had no acknowl- edgment from you, although we enclosed a post card with the credentials for that purpose. I am sure you will appreciate the fact that as the Red Cross credentials should only be worn by a member of our enrollment, if they are lost we are immediately concerned lest they may fall into the hards of someone who has no right to them and would exploit them. Not receiving the return post card in acknowledgment of the credentials, or a letter from you, we do not know, of course, whether the badge and card have reached you safely. If you still have the post card in your possession, will you not fill it in and mail it to this office whthout delay? If, however, you have mislaid the card, we shall be very grateful if you will write us, assuring us that you have the credentials in your possession and giving us your present address. If, by any chance, the appointment card and badge have not reached you and the address to which we sent them is wrong, will you not trace them by getting in touch with your former address without delay. Also, please make in- quiry through your local post office. fter every effort has been made to loc. te the original appoint- ment card and badge, without success, we will, of course, furnish you with duplicates. It is important that this matter be attended to immediately because if the appointment card and badge are not in your possession, you have no means of establishing your identity as an enrolled Red Cross Home Defense nurse. We are sure we may depend upon you for your interest and cooperation. Very truly yours, Clara D. Noyes, Chairman, National Committee, Red Cross Nursing Service. IFB/bk. u 5 I 6
