FORM 766
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS
To:
National Headquarters and
Date:
October 19, 1936
Branch Office Staffs
From:
Vice Chairman in Charge
Subject:
Miss Ida F. Butler
of Domestic Operations
Director of Nursing
Service
In accordance with the announcement made at the time, Miss
Ida F. Butler was appointed Acting Director of Nursing Service
following the sudden death of Miss Clara D. Noyes, June 4, 1936.
Inasmuch as Miss Butler had planned to retire June 30, 1936,
and since it was then felt that a permanent successor to Miss
Noyes would be appointed within a relatively short time, Miss
Butler was designated Acting Director. Pressure of work and
necessary absences from Washington have resulted in greater delay
than was originally anticipated, but Miss Butler has consented to
continue in service until the selection of a permanent successor.
She has therefore been designated Director, retroactive to the
time of Miss Noyes' death.
This appointment is a merited recognition of Miss Butler's
long service with the Red Cross dating from December 3, 1919
Her thorough acquaintance with every detail of the work will
enable her to make a real contribution during the period of her
incumbency. I am sure that Miss Butler's appointment will not
only meet with a hearty response from her immediate associates
in the Red Cross, but that it will be approved and appreciated
by the nursing profession.
