Excerpts from Miss Butlers folder -
D
"On November 23, 1938, in the Chairman's office of the American
Red Cross, with the Service Heads, Members of the Advisory Committee
on Nursing, and Nursing Staff present, Mr. Davis presented a
certificate of distinguished service to Miss Ida F. Butler.
Mr. Davis: I went to give you this certificate of
very distinguished service at the Red Cross.
We are really terribly sad that you are going
to cease your active work with us.
Miss Butler: I would like to cry but all I em going to say
is "thank you". I think it will have to hang
very near over my head at nights.
Mr. Davis: Everyone here appreciates the wonderful spirit
you have shown. You have been a grand sport
and you have worked under difficulties at times
but you have smiled when things were not as you
wanted them. You have never been a grouch but
have shown fine courage, great spirit and great
patience.
Miss Butler: We forget all that when we leave the service in
perfectly wonderful hands."
