Butler\nActing Chairman, Nursing Activities Committee\nHartford Chapter, American Red Cross\n125 Trumbull Street\nHartford, Connecticut\nDear Miss Butler:\nMiss Crouch has forwarded to me a copy of your recent\nletter to her in which you speak frankly about the new enrollment plan.\nWe are always interested in your comments, because we know that you are\ngenuinely interested in helping us make a success of our nursing programs.\nMay I reply to several points included in your letter;\nfor instance, the question regarding participation of nurses in nonnurse\nchapter programs. Each chapter is privileged to accept or reject this\npart of our enrollment plan. You may be interested to know that a number\nof chapters and nurses have expressed a real interest in these nonnurse\nprograms. Our new enrollment plan is intended to serve local chapters\nfor the expansion of their community programs with the view to making\nthem much more effective. In other words, enrollment is a. device to\ninterest nurses in chapter community programs.\nOur new poster, just now in the making, carries the\ncaption addressed to nurses in general \"Enroll to Serve Your Community Beyond\nthe Line of Duty.\" We have tried to convey the same idea in our new\npromotional leaflet, a copy of which is herewith enclosed. By the way,\nthis leaflet was distributed in quantity at the Biennial Nursing Convention\nand was very enthusiastically received by students and graduate nurses.\nOur convention exhibit also carried the same message and it attracted a\ngreat deal of attention and many favorable comments were made by nurses\nand other exhibitors.\nThe roster as provided for in our new enrollment plan\nshould be a convenience for chapters when it becomes necessary to recruit\nnurses for disasters or any other chapter needs such as instructors in\nhome nursing and nurse's aides, or for the blood program as a matter of fact."
