Miss Calra D. Noyes,
Acting Director, Department of Nusing,
American Red Cross,
My dear Miss Noyes,
Recently A.Maury Carter was assigned to the Marine Hsopital at
Baltimore by the Red Cross. Miss Carter understood conditions in th
these hospitals when she made application for the position, as I talk-
ed with her concerning her detail. She remained less than a month,
and then resigned stating that she would remain until her relief
nurse arrived, but she left last Friday leaving the hospital short
and without fulfilling her promise. I understood that Red Cross
nurses accepted this assignment for a period of six months. Miss
Carter is not eligible for further service in the Public Health
Nurse Corps, and will be listed as "dishonorabl y discharged".
It would seem that some disciplinary measure be adopted in
her case.
Very sltrulylyours.
Lucy
Superintendent Nurse Corps, U.S.Public Health Service.
