Extract from letter from Surgeon General Rupert Blue
to Miss Noyes, April 10, 1919
"The following letter has been received from Surgeon C. W. Vogel, Medi-
cal Officer in Charge, U.S. Marine Hospital, Baltimore, Md., dates April 7, 1919
"I have the honor to report that Nurse (Miss) A.
Maury Carter of this station announces that she will
resign as soon as relieved. Miss Carter joined the
station on April 1st and informs me that as her work
has been all along obstetrical lines she feels that she
is out of place in a hospital treating male cases only.
Will you not therefore request the American Red
Cross to send another trained nurse to this station
as soon as possible, one who will remain with the
hospital?"
In accordance with the above letter, therefore, will you not kindly
detail another nurse to relieve Miss Carter at Baltimore, with compensation
at the usual rate of $60.00 per month, base pay, quarters, subsistence and
laundry?
Respectfully
(sign ed) Rupert Blue
Surgeon General
