Marie Cash,
WWI Nürse
Hero, Dies
Mrs. Marie R. Cash, of 2008
N.E. Third Ave., a decorated
front line nurse in World War I,
died yesterday at the Veterans
Hospital in Coral Gables.
One of the three Daughters of
Valor, Mrs. Cash, 74, was born in
New Castle, Pa. and received
nurses training at Children's Hos-

pital Training School of Pitts-

burgh and the Woman's College
of Pennsylvania.

She was loaned to the French
government by the U.S. Army and
a
went to the front lines at Sois-
sions. She was assistant chief of
the U.S. Army Nursing Corps,

with headquarters in Paris.
While at the front, Mrs. Cash
was chief nurse of the U.S. Ex-
peditionary Forces, under com-
mand of Gen. Pershing. She was
also in charge of establishing over
seas army hospitals.
For her service in World War I,
Mrs. Cash was decorated with the
U.S. Distinguished Service med-
al, and by the English and French
governments.
She came here 13 years ago
from Knoxville, Tenn. and was a
member of the Presbyterian
Church, the Eastern Star, and
D.A.V.
Surviving are a son, Sgt. Maclel.
Ian Cash, stationed in Japan, and
a brother, George V. Rhodes of
Ft. Lauderdale.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. to-
morrow at the Fairchild N Feder-
al Funeral Home. Burial will be
in Arlington National Cemetery.
