itani at Archine THE AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS lay, WESTERN AREA Date October 17, 1967 M To Miss Jeanne Durr Assistant National Director 5 Nursing Services acil American Red Cross P NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS Subject Miss Marie F. Catania, No. 5535 F From Shirley A. Meyer F Re: Our memo 9/1/66 ci Your memo 9/6/66 As the files indicate, Miss Catania is a World War I Red Cross nurse, who for World War I Red Cross nurses, since the "military takes care of their Delano in 1914. She, again, is inquiring as to possible benefits or pension served in Italy in 1918-1919 and hasva Red Cross nurse card signed by Jane C nurses." I briefly explained the eligibility rules necessary for military to receive such benefits, i.e. full active duty or part active and of nurses part reserve activity for twenty years. This explanation seemed to be some benefit. & I have a feeling she heard of or saw your picture with another nurse "pinned" by Jane Delano in Fairbanks! She has recently moved from the Continental Hotel to the Granada Hotel, 1000 Sutter, in San Francisco. I here in San Francisco and she has attended some of them. However, for mentioned to her the annual Jane Delano tea held at the Golden Gate she chapter, still feels that the Red Cross should do "something" (financial?) know the World War I nurses--even if they only served for one year! "You we had a chance to be federalized!" agreement that I'd call her if any further action is taken by the Cross. This above is for your information, and we left the conference with Red the Sheally Shirley A. Meyer Director, Nursing Services 5 5 3 9,
