T K e Young Men's Christian Association, 1421 Arch St., Philadelphia, Pae, M March 25th, 1936. a a Miss Mabel T. Boardman, Secretary, The American Red Cros S, National Headquarters, Washington, D.C.; D My dear Miss Boardman :- Do you think it would be possible for the American Red Cross to give me any position in its general offices in Washington, for a time at least, to help with the flood work, at any pay sufficient for maintenance ? My number as a Red Cross nurse is 1224, enrolled March 10th, 1911. I am very elderly, but in good health, barring a slight lameness from an injury. Three years ago, for "economic reasons only", , I was dropped by the Department of Health in this city for whom I had worked fourteen years and four months. I was appointed under Civil Service, having passed No.l of about 400 nurses examined. My work was almost wholly the combining of statistical reports for the Division of Child Hygiene concerning maternity and infant work in 36 of the 48 wards of Philadelphia. I could submit a few old copies of these reports, if you would like me to do so. Besides this I did research, censoring of letters, revision of manuscripts, and proof=readinge Since I lost my position I have published many articles in magazines, the last, "To Be or Not To Be" sin a Boston Universalist magazine Oct.5th, 1935. Last summer I indexed two medical books for The B.Lippincott Co. I am the last of my family of six brothers and four sisters, and have no home. On Jan.26th a journey took me through Johnstown , and I wish I were young enough to go and help the flood sufferers there. Most respectfully yours 2 mary a. Clarke a
