Dear Miss Noyes
We believe that it is sound policy to refuse membership
and other lists to advertisers. It is our invariable
practice. I would think the suggestion that you in-
clude a prospectus of Miss Clarke's book with your com-
mittee letters would completely exonerate you of any pos-
sible charge of being uncooperative. You wrote a notice
of
Miss Clarke's book in your department in the Journal in
July 1934.
I know Miss Clarke and fully appreciate the appeal. How-
ever, like you, I think there may be more in it than meets
the eye.
