Miss Mary A. Clarke
3929 Locust Street
Philadelphis, Pa.
My dear Miss Clarke
Your letter of February lst has been received.
While I do not remember ever having met you, your name is very
familiar to me because of your association with Miss Delano in
Washington.
I wish very much that I could offer you some
encouragement. Our staff, however, has been subject to financial
cuts and we have been through various reorganizations for economic
reasons, consequently we are not increasing our staff. Furthermore,
there are no vacancies these days. A feiri years, ago we had a 50%
turn-over\ in our public health nursing staff, now we rarely have a
resignation.
I feel sure that there is some place for a,
person of your ability and training, and am wondering whether you
have tried the Joint Vocational Bureau in New York or some of the
other nurse placement bureaus? I wish that I might send you a'
more encouraging comminication. These are difficult days for
nearly everyone, but particularly for the nurse who is beginning to
reach the age of retirement.
Hoping that you will soon be able to find
agreeable work, I remain
Sincerely yours,
National Director, Nursing Service.
