Sister Mary Claudie
St. Francis Hospital
Trenton, New Jersey
Dear Sister Claudia:
The Chairman of the American Red Cross, Honorable Norman H.
Davis, has asked me to send you the following message from the British
Minister of Health in London, Mr. Ernest Brown:
"I am greatly distressed that some of the nurses who were
coming over to help us under the auspices of the American
Red Cross have not yet been accounted for after the bar-
barous attacks on the ships in which they were crossing
the Atlentic. If the fears for their safety should un-
happily be confirmed, the loss will be great both to you
and to us. Their sacrifice can never be forgotten. I
should be glad if you would express my deepest syupathy
with all concerned on your side. We are very glad to see
the nurses who were rescued and have now arrived in this
country and full of admiration at the courage with which
they have faced their bitter ordeal.
Sincerely yours,
8
