1923-1925 - Wheeling High School, Wheeling, W. Va.

Wheeling Public Schools, Wheeling, W. Va. CHARLES H. KEESOR, M.D., Medical Director,
2/24/28, "It is indeed a pleasure to be permitted to say a word on behalf of Miss
Lavenia I. Beck, R.N. During her two years stay in Wheeling she not only won the
a
confidence and respect of those by whom she was employed but also by those with whom
she came in contact; one can very frankly state that she was cultured and refined in
all of her ways and always exhibited what we sometimes call good common sense. She
was always interested in her work, and sympathetic with those to whom she might minister.
The boys and girls teachers and all in the high school felt that they could always get
a
hearing when it seemed necessary. Miss Beck not only carried out the work laid out
for but wasprogressive in spirit and effort and always had good ideas in promoting her
work. Her attitude toward others was very kindly and always with a spirit of coopera-
tion and fair play and yet as an executive and supervisor she was firm but fair. Her
work here was of a very high character and very satisfactory to all concerned. As to
her moral attitude, would say it was of very excellent standing, and again I may say
that I would gladly recommend her to any institution or person."
1925-1928 - instructr in history of nursing and child care, and director of infirmary
at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York.
Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York, HENRY TO MOORE, President, 2/9/28. "I
take great pleasure in making a statement on behalf of Miss Lavenia I. Beck, who has
served for three years as the head of the infirmary at Skidmore College. Miss Beck
combines admirable training with a thoroughly professional attitude and sympathetic
interest in her patients. She seems to me to have almost the ideal qualifications
for a college infirmary head, and it is a source of the greatest regret to Skidmore
College that her professional ambition takes her away from us at this time. I have
every confidence that she will go far in her chosen field, and she will always carry
with her the unqualified recommendation of this college, where she has served socon-
scientiously and effectively for the past three years."
1929-30 - Staff nurse East Harlem Nursing an Health Service.
East Harlem Nursing and Health Service, N.Y.C. GRACE L. ANDERSON, Director 2/7/30
"Miss Lavenia Beck began her service with us on January 1, 1929. She is a woman of
unusual intellectual ability but apt to take her work a bit too seriously, which may
be more apparent than real. The organization of her work is excellent, technique good
and work finished. She has good teaching ability, gets good cooperation from her fami-
lies and is well liked by members of the staff. She has more than good ability in
finding social problems and seeing them through. She is in good physical condition, is
dependable and loyal to the organization. I think her special ability lies in the field
of teaching.
