My dear Miss lavis:
Your lotter of Hovember 7 enclosing one which you intended
mailing to us last August, is just received and we indeed regret that
you find it impossible to accept appointment as Acting Chairman of the
Hartford Local Committee, until the return of Miss Leck from Siam. We
had naturally secepted your silence as your consent to accopt this appoint-
ment. Wie hadi supposed, however, that you had boen consulted concerning
your willingness to accept appointment before your name was sent to us;
otherwise, we should havo communicated with you beforo definitely sonding
out your appointment letter.
We are, at this time, appealing to Wiss stewart, Secretary
of the fartford Committee, in the hope that she will be willing to serve
as Aeting Chairman, as well as Secretary during the period of Niss Leck's
absence and hope she will find it possible to. do this. lie regret that your
letter did not reach us immediately after your appointment but hope that
this matter has not caused you any grest inconvenience.
I have noted your statement that you do not wish your en-
rollment records transferred at this time, inasmuch as your stay in Hartford
will be quite short. We will depend upon you to keep us advised of your
whereabouts at all times.
