The Honorable Franklin K. Lane,
The Secretary of Interior,
Washington, D.C.
My dear Mr. Secretary:
The Red Cross and our country have had a
great loss in the death of Miss Jane Delano,
who served so efficiently as the head of our
Department of Nursing.
On May seventh, every Red Cross division
will hold memorial services in her honor.
In Washington, the national organization will
unite with the Potomac Division, and will hold
a meeting in D.A.R. Hall that evening at eight
o'clock.
We would be very nuch pleased if you would
consent to act as Chairman for the evening. The
occasion is one worthy of whatever we can do.
We feel that no figure in Red Cross work stends
out more prominently than Miss Delano, both for
effectiveness and spirit.
I would very nuch appreciate hearing of
your decision.
Sincerely yours,
Willoughly G. Walling
Vice Chairman.
