My dear Miss Noyes:
P.eferred/t mustings
The nurses will do everything
possible to express the esteem in which
they held Miss Delano and I believe tha t
all Navy nurses who are on duty in Washing-
ton and vicinity will be present at the Memorial
-
Services, approximately seventy, but if the num-
ber is beyond this I will notify you so soon as
I hear from Quantico and Annapolis.
The suggestion that the nurses should
be in uniform will be followed. As you know
the uniform was not made compulsory for the
2
Navy and very few who are on duty at the
4
Naval Hospitals are equipped with out door
uniforms.
I wondering if these nurses
I
could wear their white uniforms, their caps,
and Red Cross capes, while the visiting nurses
w
would wear their out door uniforms. I am
0
afraid this is the only way we could have an
appearance of uniformity. If the suggestion
meets with your approval I think it would
result in a larger number being present.
Very truly yours,
Levan Superintendent, Navy S. Nurse Corps.
Miss Clara D. Noyes,
Acting Director,
Department of Nursing,
American Red Cross,
Washington, D.C.
