Miss Anna W. Kerr,
Minnequa Hill,
Canton, Pa.
My dear Miss Kerr:
I am enclosing a copy of Miss Bethel's
JAN
A
letter, she will probably write to you also. As I
understand it from the Surgeon General's office the
Government has charge of the body until it is delivered
to the Red Cross in Washington. If ne know the date of
I
the gailing of the transport, also the date of arrival in
New York it would be quite possible to have Miss Johnson,
Miss Nuno and some other members of the Nursing Service
meet the transport. I am not certain as to the place of
landing, but this can casily be determined from the Surgeon
General¹s office. I believe there is a receiving vault at
Arlington.
A list has been mode of the people that
you fecl should be notified of the I will
see that these are sent promptly. I am very glad that you
feel that the services,as indicated by you ahould be simple.
Both Miss Nevins and I felt this way, but as I told you
before it did not seem proper for either of us to decide
the matter.
Since writing to you a fen days ago, all
my plans have been changed and I am to sail for
Europe about the 11th of September I shall leave the
plans, however, in the hands of Miss Ida F. Butler and
Miss Nevins, with possibly the assistance of Miss Stimson,
who could represent the Surgeon General's office, so that
in case the body does not reach hure before I leave, every-
thing will be done as well as if I were here. Miss Hay's
health, together with the closing program and the changes
that are taking place in Poland have hurried my departure.
Very truly yours,
Director - Department of Nursing.
