Subject : Disinterment of Miss Jane A. Delano's remains.
1. With reference to your letter of April 28th regarding
acquaint disinterment you Secretary " of War, Delano desiro dated was
the of Miss Jane A. Delano's remains, we to
with the decision of the
February 7th, the purport of which was that Miss
plainly not a member of the military establishment and that the
War Depertment has not the right to further or to hinder the
removal of her remains." Dr. Keppel was informed, however, that
in case the Red Cross wished Miss Delano's body returned in the
general course of the Var Department operations relating to the
bringing back of the soldier dead, the Department would be happy
to cooperate.
2. Todate we have received no instructions from the War
Department authorizing any action on our part towards this
disinterment.
