NOT TO BE ROUTED NOT TO BE ROUTED NOT TO BE ROUTED NOT TO BE ROUTED September 2, 1982 Dear Mr. Chase: Last spring, in connection with the election of Jane Delano to the Hall of Fame of the American Nurses' Association, Dr. William L. Kuehn, Director, Department of Communications of the association, reviewed files here pertaining to Miss Delano and discovered the w enclosed August 1928 correspondence between Clara D. Noyes, National Director, Red Cross Nursing Service, and Marian Rottman, Director of Nursing Service, Bellevue and Allied Hospitals, New York City. Miss Rottman stated that Miss Delano listed March 26, 1858 as her date of birth on her application in her own handwriting. Surely, to that must be the correct date. As you can see from the enclosed biographical leaflet, we have been using the March 12, 1862 date P for years. Apparently, Miss Noyes never made use of the information 8 she received from Miss Rottman. The date you have of Miss Delano's death, April 15, 1919, is correct. Thus, she was 61, and not 57, when she died. Being an historian, I believe in accuracy, but I doubt if Miss Delano's tombstone in Arlington will ever be changed: May she rest in peace.
