The term of service is for the period of the war, but nurses may be re- leased at the expiration of one year, if the reasons for their request for re- lease meet with the approval of the authorities. Nurses sent over under the Red Cross are expected to remain in this service and requests for transfer to the military service will not be considered. We request that you pay your own transportation to New York securing vouchers for all expenditures and presenting these with your bills at the New York Office for reimbursement. You are allowed hotel bill for three (3) days prior to the date on which you are booked to sail at $4.00 a day, and for any time you may be held in New York af ter that date. As the ships rarely sail on the designated date, you will probably have from three to six days extra in New York, thus having full time for any preparation it is necessary to make. You are allowed salary at two ($2.00) dollars a day from date of leav- ing home to date on which booked to sail. If you are held in New York af ter that time the additional salary will be paid in France. After sailing however, there can be no change made in the method of payment of salaries. Forms for this pur- pose will be sent you later from Dr. Babcock's office.
