Dr. Hunter H. MoGuire,
Winchester, virginia.
pear Dr. Maquire:
It is very gratifying to our state Committes to receive
such an endorsement of any applicant for enrollment as that
which you have given vise bidier and giss gerson in your letter
of the 16th inst.
I wigh to assure you, however, that enrollment for service
in Europe is entirely voluntary. Miss Delano has impressed upon
her State Committees that her selections for euch service would
be made with as little sacrifice as possible sither on the part
of the nurses or the positions in which thay ara engaged. The
service is compulsory in svent that our own country goes to war,
and even then, if the service would seriously interfere with any
work in which she was ongaged, the murse has the privilage of resign-
ing.
We have a large enrollment and in tima of pease #9 should
be able to seoure murses for disaster work wöthout sariously in
conveniencing anyone.
Trusting that this will explain to you what you wished to
know, and thanking you for your interest, I am
very truly yours,
Justia Mellichamke Chairman R. c. N. Service R.N. , in
