Your letter regarding the situation in
of Philadelphia has just reached me. I must say that I am filled
07709 at Swith indignationwhine recallothat during the month of April
11 used Mids Frost was bringing great pressure upon us to secure the
scholarship, in order that these two young women might continue
their course, and not a word was said to us regarding the
accumulation of criticism that was being directed against Miss
Diaz. I cannot understand why Miss Frost should have felt that
Miss Hicks was the person she should have discussed the matter
with, rather than with us, inasmuch as we had expected to use her
and we were putting up the money for her preparation.
I will talk the matter over with Miss Fox,
who was good enough to secure the first scholarship for her, and
who was interested in helping prepare these young women as
assistants to you. Personally, I think she should be told the
criticisms that have accumulated against her. It is not always
necessary to give names.
I conclude from your letter, that you are
willing to give her a trial upon your return, but that her
certificate from the School in Philadalphia will not be awarded
until she has completed a specified term with you. of course we
would not consider enroling her. Your last paragraph, however,
makes me feel that you are not willing to even decide this, without
probing the stories and facing her with them. Will you let me know
which course you think we should take? I am quite willing to abide
by your decision.
Sincerely yours,
cobl Ot CABRE DE26VICHED 10 2M122
Director - Nursing Service.
P.S. In rereading your letter, I do not think I understood it
the
first time. I believe that you intended to convey the impression
that you would not be willing not to use Miss Diaz unless you had
probed the whole story and faced her with the facts. It seems to
