2 Miss Harriette Sheldon Douglas. They were more or less to be expected during the reconstruction period. How ever, I believe you were quite right in some of your views, for I do not believe that the Red Cross has been any better for certain changes that took place at that time. On the contrary much confusion and embarrassment has existed, but why talk of disagreeable things when there are so many pleasant things in the world. Miss Butler is on her vacation, having left Monday night, immediately after my return. After two weeks of intense heat, which I fortunately missed, we have had a week of steady rain, which is most unusual last night being so cold that I was glad to have extra covers. I hope sometime when you come back to Washington you will stop with me. I have a guest room, which is usually vacant. I know that the staff at National Headquarters, who remember you so pleasantly, would send messages and greetings if they only knew I was writing. Mrs. Baker has not been particularly well and is off duty at present. Miss Fox enjoyed her visit abroad and had a beautiful time, and I assume Miss Butler is enjoying every minute that she is spending at her brother's home at Waterfor Conn. I am sfraid, however, that she has met unpleasant weather, which is rather trying when you have only a short vacation. Do write whenever you can, as I enjoy hearing from you. As always, I am, Sincerely yours,
