We have had the most wonderful seather
cold and a good deal of rain for us. It is getting warner
now, but until the present time we have hardly had any of our
uncomfortable warm weather. Washington was never more
beautiful, because of the rain. You will be chocked, how-
ever, to see the way they have cut down the trees in order to
widen the streets. They have, however, replanted, and the
trees are growing very nicely, but it will take good many
years for them to be of sufficient size to either shade the
streets or cover up the houses whose hideous facue have been
revealed to U8 in some instances for the first time.
we have decided to finish the American
Nurses' Memorial. That meane raising $25,000. I Lope sometime
if you happen to be going through to Brittany, or the south
of France, that you will make a point of stopping off at the
Memorial School at Bordeaux, they would love to have you.
You will also be interested to know
that we have taken a column on the front of the buildingknown
as the Memorial to the Romen of the Worlds Bar, which ie to
be the headquarters of the District of Columbia Chapter, and
is not under National Headquarters control, in memory of Miss
Delano. Be have decided to use the remainder of the fund to
erect a memorial, probably on the grounds of the American Red
Cross, in the court that will be formed by the Civil War
Memorial, the Worlde War Memorial, and our new office building,
which will conform in architectural design to the other two.
Whether this will take the form of a beautiful fountain, or
some other sculptural design remains to be seen. If you see
the American Journal of Nursing, or the American Red Cross
Courier, you will be able to read of the Biennial Convention,
where both of these questions came up for discussion and
were settled in this way. with best wishee, I am 88 always
Sincerely yours,
National Director, Nursing Service.
