Dear Mr. Campbell:
On August 18, 1941, we reported to you that six of the members
of our American Red Cross-Harvard Hospital Unit were missing after the
Steamers Maasdam and Vigrid, upon which they were sailing to Englend, were
torpedoed end sunk on June 24 and June 29 respectively. The missing
Miss
personnel from the Steamship Vigrid are:
Miss Nancie M. Pett, Nurse
Miss Dorothea L. Koehn, Nurse
Miss Phyllis L. Evans, Nurse
Miss Dorothy C. Morse, Nurse
and from the Steamship Maasdam are:
Mrs. Ruth B. Breckinridge, Housemother
Miss Maxine c. Loomis, Nurse
Five months have now elapsed since the occurrence of these
sinkings and during that period no word has come to us from any source
which would indicate that any of these six people are now living. We have,
therefore, given up hope of their survival and are now submitting to you
herewith, for your consideration, such evidence as we have been able to
gather from eyewitnesses to these two disasters and from others ith a
view to facilitating the present payment to the beneficiaries of the missing
personnel the insurance benefits provided by our Group Life Insurance Policy
with your company.
We have been receiving communications from members of the
families making frequent inquiry concerning the insurence question.
