They will be well\ntaken care of at either of these places until the office is opened.\nOne nurse in each group is selected by Miss Johnson as the head nurse of\nthe group and until the group arrives in Paris and reports to the representative\na\nof the Nursing Service, Miss Julia Stimson, at 4 Place de La Concorde, Paris, she\nacts as such. This nurse is also in charge of nurses aids who may sail on the\ncan\n+\nship.\nNurses assigned to service under the Red Cross should understand that we\non this side cannot promise a definite assignment to any nurse. They are select-\ned for service with reference to their preparation for special types of work and\nare assigned by the representatives of the Nursing Service overseas accordingly,\nalthough changing conditions may make this temporarily impossible. They are ex- be\npected, therefore, under such circunstances, to accept such assignment as may\ngiven them, without question.\nNurses serving in foreign countries under the Red Cross are under serious whem\nethical obligations not only to the nursing profession but to the Red Cross\nthey represent. They should bear in mind that any slight act of indiscretion the\nor thoughtlessness on their part may lay the Red Cross Nursing Service and\nnursing profession of America open to serious criticism. Conditions under their which\nthey probably will be working may call for a complete readjustment of\nmethod of living and working and their outlook upon life. We do not look upon\nyour assignment to overseas duty as a sacrifice but as a glorious privilege and\nan opportunity to carry the spirit of nursing and the spirit of the Red Cross\nwherever you may go.\nWe shall watch your work with great interest through the reports that are\nsubmitted to us by the Representative of the Nursing Service in the country\nwhere you may be serving.\nWe are always glad to hear from you at any time and we stand ready to\nassist you should the need of such assistance arise.
