Miss Alice Fitzgerale,
95 Via Masaccio,
Florence, Italy.
My dear Miss Fitzgerald:
Two letters have reached me from you,
but as the first crossed one from me I made no attempt to
answer it. Your second letter, dated May 5th, and received
a few days ago brings up one or two questions which I felt I
should answer with some promptness.
Naturally we want to eee you at the
I.C.N. Headquarters. I believe that your preparation iminest
ly
fits you for that position. It is all a question of securing
the salary. Something has to be done to give Miss Reimano assist-
ance, she is killing herself wi th work. The magazine alone is
enough for one person. Therefore, I hope that following the
Director: meeting in Montreal that some additional assistance
can be provided. She has an English nurse, a Miss Ruddell, who
wasfar has been of no assistance, for no sooner had she arrived
than she was obliged to leave in order to have an operation and
has only just returned to the office. I imagine that she has
a limited preparation, consequently the amount of assistance that
she can give will be limited. The arrangement, I believe, is
of more or less & temporary character, 88 1 am under the impresa-
ion that Miss Reimann did not tie herself up too tightly with
her. I know Miss Reimann is very anxious to have you. I think
she would like to turn the magazine over to you entirely, as well
as the visits to other countries. Field visits, however, are
limited because of our financial situation. Miss Reimann thinks
the magazine could be made self-supporting and perhaps it can be
if the proper person is there to develop it. She is now having
all sorte of difficulties with strik re and has not been able to get
out the May number as yet, but has made arrangements with another
printer to bring it out in connection with the July number. All
this by way of preface to 5 remark that 1 want to make, and that
is, that I hope you can delay making a definite decision as to
your future until after the board meeting.
I do know of the Italian Nurees' Associa-
tion, but so far it is impossible for its officers are made up of
men and women who are not nurses. We do not know how things will
develop.
