January 6, 1943 Miss Alice Louise F. Fitzgerald Nurses' Residence Sheppard Pratt Hospital Towson, Maryland My dear Miss Fitagerald: Miss Eileen McLaughlin, Secretary of the Maryland State and Local Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service, has just forwarded your little note of December 20 in response to the receipt of your annual address questionnaire. I don't wonder that you feel filling in one more question- naire is almost too much to expect of you. We are glad to accept your note as evidence of the fact that we can still count you as among those present. Certainly when I review your fat folder in this office, I am filled with awe and admiration at the splendid life of service you have rendered for the Red Cross and all humanity. I wish 80 much that I might have an opportunity of seeing you some time when I get to Baltimore, but with gas rationing I never seem to get bayond the point where the train drops me and Towson seems quite inaccessible. It is strange how dependent we do become upon our cars. I think it is good for us to have them with- held from us for a time so that we can appreciate to a fuller extent the good things of this life. I hope your parrot has a good supply of watermelon seeds to keep him going through the winter and that he is keeping you good company as usual. With best wishes for a brighter 1943, Sincerely yours, Gertrude S. Banfield GSB:mab Ass't. Director, Nursing Service
