Founded 1874 Mrs. Ruth Laverty Field Director THE PEABODY HOME ROOM 1422, 31 NASSAU STREET NEW YORK 5, N. Y. . REctor 2-5437 November 21, 1949 Ref. #1963 Miss Florence Johnson Director of Nursing American Red Cross Lexington Ave. and 38th Street New York City, N. Y. Dear Miss Johnson: Miss Alice Fitzgerald has given us your name as a refer- ence. She has applied for participation in our non-resident aid plan, an arrangement designed to help elderly women in need of our care. Acceptance for this service usually means ultimate acceptance as a resident in Peabody Home itself. This plan enables elderly women to continue with their present living arrangements so that they can go on leading normal, happy lives in the community. Would you be kind enough to give your impression of Miss Fitzgerald, particularly in reference to her ability to handle her affairs independently. It would also be helpful to have your opinion as to whether you think she would cooperate with our procedures and whether or not she would be a difficult person with whom to cope over various matters, either trivial or large. Please be assured that any information you wish to give will be held in strict confidence. Your cooperation will be of great help to the Admissions Committee in gaining a better understanding of Miss Fitzgerald as a person, in relation to her needs. I shall be waiting to hear further from you. Sincerely yours, (Mrs.) Laverty Ruth Ruth havely Field Director
