(^ Mrs T National Headquarters, Enl. 9-2-17; Dis. 7-24-19 Washington. D. C. S (^ Wife - Julianna My dear Miss Noyes: F At the suggestion of our Liaison Representative, we made a E loan to the above named man pending receipt of his compensa- tion check. He is suffering from a nervous condition with severe stammering and will not attempt speech but writes all of the interview. On interview we find that part of his compensation has been withheld for a number of years due to the fact that he has been unable to establish marital status. Ho tells us his wife Was a Red Cross Nurse during the World War, under the name of Julianna Sigfried Kuqua, her maiden name being Juliama sigfried Thompsone She was living at Grafton, North Dakota when she went into service and was a graduate nurse of the University of Minnesota alumni. She trained approximately from 1912 or 1913 up until 1917. They separated a number of years ago and he was informed by her sister that his wife passed avay in Washington six years ago. The sister has disappeared and he believes she has returned to Iceland where she had formerly lived. According to the veteran his wife had been approached twice and had waived all clain to the money but they do not seem to have any record of this in the file and it will be necessary to se- cure a copy of her death certificate to submit to the Bureau. We are wondering if with the information we have given a search a could be made of the Red Cross Nurses and if you have any know- ledge of her death that we can make a request for the desired certificate. W C We shall appreciate any help you can give us in establishing
