May 12,1943 M VIA AIR MAIL at: Miss Marian Claribel Gilson 516 Hale Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio My dear Miss Gilson: We have just received a request for additional nurses to staff the civilian emergency hospitals in the Hawaiian Islands. In checking over records of nurses whose ,credentials were placed on file by Mrs. E. B. Amick for first consideration should such an occasion arise, I was most pleased to find your splendid record. Since your preparation and references were excellent and your physical was approved by our Red Cross medical advisor, we are in a position to offer you an appointment. Would you be interested in an appoint- ment as staff nurse in a tuberculosis unit in conjunction with the Wahiawa Hospital on the Island of Oahu? I feel sure that with your educational advantages and preparation you could look forward to an early promotion to a head nurse position in the same place, but this decision will rest with our Hospital Consultant and Supervisor, Miss Margery J. MacLachlan. M As we would like to complete the appointments as soon as possible, will you please wire at our expense whether you are interested and giving the date on which you will be available. When we hear from you, we will give you a formal appointment and send you further instructions. Very truly yours, (Mrs.) George T. Douglas Assistant to Director GTD:SJ Nursing Service
