N I etc. a N THE AMERICAN RED CROSS A.R.C. MAIL FOOM NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS Vann M Form 222 him Fox RECEIVED rs. a Roterrad to MAY 3 1 1929 S To Miss Elizabeth G. Fox Date May 29,1929. N From Helen F. Dunn Subject Mrs. Nan Cox Hare D an u 5 On my recent visit to Berea I learned that Mrs. Hare was - doing temporary work at the Berea Hospital and in the meantime was el e looking for a position. When she heard that I was in town she asked for a conference. While she did not confide in me regarding the cause of her trouble , she infered that her marriage had gone "on the Rocks" with D no hope of a readjustment. She said that she had had a difficult time getting a hold on herself but felt that now she is ready for a position. She has been considering a position in a hospital to get up to date on methods but thought eventually she would go back into public health J. work. I spoke to her about the Virgin Islands and she said that she would consider such a position a real life saver. She had tha though about a hospital position in China but the American nurses, were classmates or friends and she decided that, at just this time, she needed to get away R.) from old associations. You and Miss Havey probably know more about her ability than I do but in my few contacts with her I have been very much impressed with her understanding of public health work. It seems to me that she is just the right person for the Virgin Islands and I feel sure that the work there would be a godsend to her. I of course told her that you had been considering other people for this position and it was just possible that the position is already filled. If you have already placed a murse in St. Croix, I believe she could be interested in some other Red Cross position, providing it would take her awray from her family and friends. Helen I Dum
