My doar Mrs. Hare:
As I wired you, we are delighted to know that you
J.
will accept the Virgin Island position. I an sure that you won't
regret your decision.
The best date for your sailing is the 13th of July
on a boat that will take you to San Juan, Porto Rico, where you will
change to another boat which will take you to St. Thomas, the head-
quarters for our Virgin Island Chapter. There you will meet Miss
Gillette vho will accompany you to 3t. Croix and get you started.
I think there are no formalities in regard to pass-
ports, etc. as the Virgin Islands are American soil. However, Miss
Butler is looking into the matter and will write you sending you any
papers it may be necessary for you to make out in regard to your
citizanship.
We vould appreciate it if you would plan to come to
Washington, arriving on the lith, which will give us a day or so to
talk over with you the problems which the Islands present. You will
then go on to New York on the 12th and sail on the 13th.
I hope this arrangement is convenient for you. If
not, let me know and I will see what can be done about it. I am
sorry that I will be in Montreal at the time you arrive in Washington.
Miss Havey and Miss Butler will be here, however, and will be glad to
talk things over with you as will those in charge of our work outside
of this country.
Yours sincerely,
