Bly dear Miss Harrell:
Your letter of May 25th, tranemitting a liet
of nurses for General Hoepital #43, has been received. Ne are
returning the carbon with notations, in accordance with our
records. May I not suggest in transmitting lists that you will
in the future double-space the names, 80 that we will have more
room in which to make the necessary
I notice that a few of the nurses are
married, and in that case they would not be accepted 8.8 members
of the Army Nurse Corps, unless they are widowe or separated
legally from their husbande.
Ada Barper, you will note, is not enrolled.
If she is eligible she should take stepe to meet thie requirement
with as little delay as possible.
In view of the record on file in this
office in the case of Lula McMorris, we should not be willing to
recommend her as a member of your unit.
A few of the nurses you will note are over-
ege, i.e., over forty-five years, and while they might be attached
to the unit as executives, they probably would not be acceptable
as general staff nurees.
Anong the more recent graduates you should
be able to find an adequate number of nurses. to fill the roster
of the unit. We appreciate that it is elow work, as our
experience proved during the recent worlde War. It is difficult
to interest nurses in preparedness measures in time of peace.
The steps that you are taking, however, should bear fruit. If
