In accordance with the nomination made by the Board of Directors of the
State Nurses' Association, we are pleased to appoint you to member-
Apt e
Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service to serve as Chairmen and
represent the Los Angeles Local Committee.
+th
The State Committees on Red Cross Nursing Service are growing in importance due
to the rapid developments in the war situation which necessitates more effective
I
state-wide planning with all nursing organizations. Membership, functions, and
a
relationships are outlined in the attached mimeographed material, which should be
carefully studied and discussed with other members of the Committee in order that
C
all may have a clear understanding of the place of the Committee in the development
5
C
of state nursing activities.
C
The present national emergency calls for greater emphasis upon disaster pre-
paredness, which must necessarily involve Local Committees on Red Cross Nursing
Service and the local Red Cross chapters; hence the recommendation that all Local
Committees on Red Cross Nursing Service be represented on the State Committee by the
officers so that they may share in planning objectives for the state as a whole.
It is quite important that the State Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service be
represented on the State Nursing Council on- Defense in order to avoid overlapping
or duplication of effort at a time when unity of purpose and speedy action are vital.
Such representation should provide a channel for proper clearance of all activities
delegated to the American Red Cross.
The State Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service is responsible for planning an
appropriate Red Cross program for the annual meeting of the State Nurses' Associa-
tion which should be done in cooperation with the program committee. The attached
agenda and program suggestions are offered as guides in making the necessary
arrangements.
With appreciation of your interest as evidenced by your willingness to serve on
your State Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service, I am
Sincerely yours,
Mary Beard
Director, Nursing Service
