July Twenty Eighth 1 9 2 4 Miss Katharine N. Holmes Brushwood Farm Pond Street Franklin, Mass. My dear Katharine Don't you want to do some volunteer service for the Red Cross? You probably know that Mary Nelson ie going to Constantinople early in September. We are doing our best to persuede Virginia Gibbes who has just returned from the Philippines to take her position. Miss Gibbes is hesitating because she says she wants to take a county job where she can do the work herself and she also wants to live in the country. Te are telling her that there are thousands of nurses who con fill county positions, or at least hundreds, while you can count those who can fill division positions on two hands; and we are pointing out all the advantages of life in New England and in Boston, and particularly are telling her that she can get her appetite for country life appeased by running out to visit you. Mr. Rotch is intending to get Miss Gibbes to come up to Boston to telk the proposition over and I wonder if you do not want to invite her out to your country estate while she is up there? I am sure if the New Eaglend o.K. Division unloads its battery of guns and if you get in some good work for FOR FILING us we ought to win her over. R She has gone to her home in Columbia, s.c., and her address is 914 Barnwell St. Some day when I have leisure, I mean to write you all about my trip to Europe. It was perfectly fine and I enjoyed it enormously. How are things going with you and Charlotte V.D.? I presume yousre busy nursing young chickens and chasing off hanks, or whatever it is that preys on them. I hope the farm is blooming well and that all goes well with you. With affectionate regards to both of you, Yours sincerely egf ccl
