    "ocrText": "2937\n-2-\nNurses arriving in New York after 5 P, M. or on Saturday afternoon or Sunday\nshould communicate with the Gentral Club. 132 East 45th Street, phons Murray Hill\n8700, or with the Park Avenue Hotel, 32 Street and 4th Avenue, Murray Hill 3500,\nwith whom arrangements have been made for your board. You will be well taken\ncare\nof at either of these places until the office is opened.\nOne nurse in each group is selected by Miss Johnson as the head nurse and\nuntil they arrive in Paris and report to the representative of the Nursing Ser-\nvice, Miss Julia Stimson, at 4 Place de La Concorde, Paris, she acts as such.\nThis nurse is also in charge of nurses' aids who may sail on the same ship.\nNurses assigned to service under the Red Cross over seas should understand\nthat we cannot promise a definite assignment to any nurse. They are selected\nfor service with reference to their preparation for special types of work and\nare assigned by the representatives of the Nursing Service overseas accordingly,\nalthough changing conditions may make this temporarily impossible. They are ex-\npected, therefore, under such circumstances, to accept such assignment as may be\ngiven them, without question,\nNurses serving in foreign countries under the Red Cross are under serious\nethical obligations not only to the nursing profession but to the Red Cross whom\nthey represent. They should bear in mind that any slight act of indiscretion or\nthoughtlessness on their part may lay the Red Cross.Nursing Service and the nurs-\ning profession of America open to serious criticism. Conditions under which they\nmay be working may call for a complete readjustment of their method of living and\nworking and their outlook upon life. We do not look upon your assignment to over-\nseas duty as a sacrifice but as a glorious privilege and an opportunity to carry\nthe spirit of nursing and the spirition the Red Cross wherever you may go.\nWe shall watch your ;work with great interest through the reports that are\nsubmit to us by the representative of the Nursing Service in the country where\nyou may be serving,\nWe are always glad to hear fromiyou at any time and we stand ready to assist\nyou should the need of such assistance arise.
