July 1, 1935 Mrs. Lou E. Vold Acting Executive Secretary Franklin County Chapter American Red Cross Stoneman Building Columbus, Ohio My dear Mrs. Vold: Your letter of June twenty-sixth to Miss Annabelle Petersen wes referred to the Nursing Service in order that we might examine our files for a Mrs. Kidd who was assigned to foreign service as a Red Cross nurse during the war. We think we have found the records of the nurse you refer to but we have her name as Miss Caroline Amelia Kidd. She was assigned to our Siberian Unit in 1910, ar- riving in Vladivostok June 5, 1919, and she left Vladivostok to return to this country February 5, 1920. A very careful examina- tion of her files fails to reveal any incident as noted in your letter. There is one statement showing that it was necessary to replenish Miss Kidd's equipment because of fire which broke out on the train transporting the nurses to their destination. The train was known as Evacuation Train No. 2 and the fire broke out in the baggage car. She lost considerable of her equipment which was replaced. Unfortunately we cannot give you any inform tion re- garding the whereabouts of this nurse. We have heard nothing from her since her return to this country. Miss Kida was not assigned to the Unit as a nurse but as a dietitian, though she as an en- rolled Red Cross nurse. Our last address for her was Marietta, Ohio, no street. On her'application form for enrollment she gives her nearest relative as Mrs. Sanford Kilmer, 1011 3rd Street, Marietta, Ohio. This was so long ago we doubt if it is correct. We are sorry that we cannot supply you with further information. Very truly yours Ida E. DButler Assistant Director of Nursing National Headquarters `IFB/img
