LIFE INSURANCE PHONE 2-4091 LIFE ANNUITIES NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY OF VERMONT W. C. MISSIMER, DISTRICT MANAGER 916 POPLAR STREET ERIE. PENNSYLVANIA April 11, 1956 APRIS Miss Virginia B. Elliman, Director The walk ROOM is Disaster Nursing and Nurse Enrollment American National Red Cross National Headquarters Washington 13, D.C. Dear Miss Elliman: I thank you so much for your letter of April 4th in which you enclosed copies of two letters from Miss Keil. This material is invaluable to me and straightens out several complications concerning which I desired enlightenment. You may have Miss Keil's name registered as "Kiel" but it should be spelled "Keil" and pronounced "Keel". Sophia V. Keil is now seventy- six (76) years old. She lives with my sister, Florence C. Missimer, at Butler Hall, New York City. The address is Butler Hall, 88 Morningside Drive, New York City, N.Y. My sister, as you know, graduated with Miss Keil in 1908 from St. Luke's Hospital. Since Miss Keil's tragic accident in San Francisco in May 1923, my sister has devoted her life to taking care of her, in addition to her institutional work at St. Luke's Hospital, New York City, where she was employed as a supervisor until her retirement two years ago. Two of the nurses who went abroad with Miss Keil in 1914 are still living - - there may be others but I do not have the names of any. The addresses of these two are: Miss Fredericka Farley Miss Florence Farmer Nurses' House, Inc. 310 Cumberland St. Hotel Shelton Brooklyn 38, N.Y. 522 Lexington Ave. New York City, N.Y. I wrote both Miss Farley and Miss Farmer. Miss Farley replied and answered my questions. I have not received any reply from Miss Farmer. It is possible that the address, 310 Cumberland Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. is wrong but it is the one that Miss Farley supplied me. I wrote St. Luke's Hospital, New York City, for some information and I regret to say that this hospital was most uncooperative, stating that they had very few employment records prior to 1926 and, therefore, they could not give me the information I desired. I merely mention this in passing. You have been most co-operative. My article is from one-half to two-thirds completed. I have gotten to where Miss Keil began her service on the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON. In
