folder METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY ROOM RECEIVED FREDERICK H. ECKER, Chairman of the Board LEROY A. LINCOLN, President HENRY E. NORTH DEC 13 1938 Vice-President Pacific Coast Head Office Referred To 600 Stockton Street Welfare Division Them CALIFORNIA SAN FRANCISCO WILLIAM P. SHEPARD, M.D. Assistant Secretary HELEN C.LA MALLE, R.N. Superinlendent of Nursing December 9, 1938 Miss Mary Beard, Director Nursing Service American Red Cross National Headquarters Washington, D.C. Dear Miss Beard: Your letter dated December 2, officially informing me of my appoint- ment to serve as a member of the San Francisco, California, Local Committee on Red Cross Nursing Service, has been received. I accept membership on this important committee with a full appre- ciation of the importance of our national American Red Cross. You may be assured that any influence I can personally bring to bear on the nurses to make them realize the significance of enrollment will be my objective. Recognizing the importance of attending meetings when one assumes the responsibility of membership, I shall aim, during the coming years of my service, to attend regularly. You will be interested to know that Miss Edith Smith, the chairman of our local committee, had an unusually fine opportunity to discuss the importance of enrollment at the district meeting, December 6, Min Division and did admirably well in presenting this subject to the nurses. Sincerely yours, Helen ILa Malle Helen C. La Malle, R.N. Superintendent of Nursing
