Lang\n-2-\nAugust 2, 1943\nWe shall expect you to arrange to arrive in San Francisco by Sep-\ntember 15, 1943, unless we hear from you to the contrary.\nDue to crowded conditione on the trains, reservations should\nbe made as soon as you receive your appointment letter and accept the\nappointment.\nAs you undoubtedly noted in the instructions in the General Infor-\nmation sheet, the Red Cross will advance the money to cover your travel ex-\nfrom your home to Hawaii. This check will be mailed to you within a\npense short time. We shall want to keep in close touch with you from now on, so\nplease keep us informed of any current change of address or telephone number.\nIf you have any problems which are not answered in the printed enclosures,\nplease feel free to write us at any time.\nSincerely yours,\n(Mrs.) George T. We have been recently urged to say that although nurses\nmay be appointed for general staff duty, it is possible that they\nmay be called upon to work either in the Polio Emergency Hospital\nin Homolulu or the Wahiawa Tuberculosis Unit. I am particularly men-\ntioning this because you suggested in an earlier letter that you would\nnot be interested in tuberculosis nursing. Miss MacLachlan who. is\nour Hospital Consultant and Supervisor has the entire responsibility\nof placing the nurses in the place where the need is most urgents.\nand we feel that every nurse who goes should realize the need for\nbeing adaptable under the emergency conditions which exist.\n4"
