carded no recent May 7, 1935 ut Miss Ruth Laxton County Health Nurse Dresden, Tennesee My dear liss Laxton: We have had some communication with our Public Health Bursing and Home Hygiene Service relative to your en- rollment in the Red Cross Nursing Service, and we have read your letter to Miss Bevey together with her reply to you. Te find a notation in our rejected file thit we had once before. considered you for/enrollment and found thit you were not eligible, for the tio schools in which you com- pleted your nursing education did not neet Red Cross require- ments; one caring for a wininum forty daily average number of patients, the other a minimum thirty-eight. Since graduation you have had no course in nursing to include the basic nursing subjects, pediatrics, obstetrics and medical nursing. While you have continued to educate yourself in Public Bealth Nursing, this has never been considered as satisfactorily supplementing a small school where it is not possible for a nurse to receive full rounded courses in the subjects mentioned in this letter. Therefore, considering your situation it seems only fair to advise you thit in order to meet Red Cross requirements you should plan to have a course of at least six months, the course to include, if possible, pediatrics, obstetrics and that branch of medical nursing which seeus most necessary to round out your medical experience. These courses may bè taken in a hospital or hospitals which neet Red Cross requirements. Te are sending a copy of this letter to Miss Helen F. Dunn, Assistant to the Director, Public Health Nursing and Home Hygiene Service. We sincerely hope that you will find it possible to take the necessary course to make you eligible for I enrollment. Very sincerely yours has o D. Ida F. Butler Assistant to the Director Red Cross Nursing Service IFB/ing
