My dear Miss Simon and Miss Ledyard:
I have enjoyed your letters and your articles and
have been intending to write you for many days but as you see am just
getting around to it.
Miss Noyes told me of her conversation with you, Miss
Simon, and I was glad to find that she agreed with me in Felieving that
both of you acted in perfect good faith and with dignity and propriety in
the
unplensant happerings in London. That is, of course, a thing of the
past now but it is a matter of sincere regret to all of us, that is to say,
regret thi you received such unfair treatment.
I am sorry that you are not to receive any certificate
for your Course but believe that the experience you are now getting is far
more valuable than a certifieate, and that in the long run you and the work
you are going to do vill benefit more by the experience you 8 re now having
than by staying in London simply for the sake of getting a certificate.
Your accounts of your visits in England and on the con-
tinent sound most interesting and profitable. I am sure you will both come
back filled with new ideas and impressions and with e different point of
view toward our American work and will give us all sorts of idens which we
can put to good use.
Miss Cole writes me that she is counting on you, Miss
Ledyard, returning to California. I believe she wants to put you in charge
of some of the work et the University of Celifornia in connection with the
Public Health Nursing course. She is coming on to the Meeting of the
whole Division Directors of Nursing in Washington next week and I she 11 telk the
matter over with her then and write you at once. I presume you will
plan to go straight home from New York when you land. I hope that I
shall
have an opportunity, however, to see both of you in New York but that may
not be possible.
I am ashamed to say I have not found out about the
situntion in Portland in response to your questions, Miss Simon. We have
just been changing Directors of Nur sing in the New England Division mede
necessary by Miss Billing's resignation to become the Executive Secretary of
the Massachusetts Tuberculosis Association and this change hes delayed my
getting the necessary information for you.
