MA"L ROOM REKEIVED ..... FOR FILING Miss Elizabeth G. Fox, Director, Public Health Nursing Service, JUL 16 1927 m American Red Cross, Referr.d bo. Washington, D.C. 70 $ My dear Miss Fox: I am sure Mr. Fieser has acquainted you with the fact that I a.m staying on until the fifteenth of the month for several reasons: First, a change in my plans made it possible to stay; second, there seemed to be so many tag ends of things that were not done and needed to be caught up; and third, it seemed difficult to place one of the Nurse Field Representatives here during the time that would have to intervene before Miss Harris would arrive. Being able to stay on these extra couple of weeks is assisting me greatly as the sense of hurry is relieved and I feel that I can get things in pretty good shape by that time. I have almost a jealous pang when I think of Miss Harris coming out to take my place because I have been so particularly happy in my work here in the Division. We have such a. nice family spirit that I feel quite as though I were leaving members of my family when I depart. I am happy to notice in looking through Miss Harris' personal file that several years ago Miss Daisy Dean Urch wrote me about Miss Harris, asking if I could assist in finding her suitable employment. Mrs. Urch, as you know, has a very prominent part in the nursing world here -- is the President of the California State League of Nursing Education, and has just recently taken the position of Superintendent of Nurses of the Highlands Hospital School, a new one just opened across the Bay. Therefore, Miss Harris will find an old friend right in the vicinity when she arrives which I think will make it very pleasant for her. I have just written Miss Harris a little letter telling her that I think I can arrange to get back to the office around the first of the month for a few days to give her whatever assistance may be helpful in getting started. I know she can not help but be happy here, and everybody in the Division Office is prepared to give her all the assistance possible. I do not need to express to you my appreciation for your fine guidance and assistance which you have given me during the period of my service. In fact, I count that one of the richest contributions which the Red Cross has made to me as an individual has been my opportunity for friendship with you. Please come out soon to the Pacific Coast and visit me in my home in Carmel. Of course
