6/20/42 Given to Miss Louthan to take to Miss Peterson in Hawaii June 19, 1942 1 Miss Genevieve Leprestre, c/o Miss Agnes Peterson, Hawaii Chapter, A.R.C., Academy of Arts, Honolulu, Hawaii. My dear Miss Leprestre: We have been so happy to hear directly from Miss Tracy all about the Hawaii Unit and I must add that we have also been very proud of the way each one of you has met the many difficulties of the situation in which you found yourselves. The many government agencies involved in this project has made it very difficult for us to give you a clear picture of what was happening or might happen. Such uncertainty seems to me to be the hardest sort of situation to put up with and I know from what Miss Tracy has said that you proved yourselves to be thoroughly good soldiers. We know that your going to the Islands was so very necessary and that the part you are playing in this great struggle is one of which you can be truly proud. Sometimes I think it is harder not to be very busy than it is to be much too busy, and perhaps you are meeting both of these situations. Miss Tracy came to Washington and, after meeting and reporting to our group here at Headquarters, went to New York. There a meeting was called to which the following came : Miss Alta E. Dines, of the Community Service Society of New York; Miss Mary M. Roberts, Editor of the American Journal of Nursing; Miss Julia C. Stimson, President of the American Nurses' Association; Miss Anna D. Wolf, Director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing; Miss Katharine Tucker, from the University of Pennsylvania; Miss Marion Sheahan, Director of Public Health Nursing of the New York State Department of Health; Miss Alma C. Haupt, Executive Secretary of the Sub- committee on Nursing of the governmental Health and Medical Committee; Miss Marion Randall, Nursing Consultant in the Office of Civilian Defense; and Miss Dunbar, Miss Banfield and myself of the Red Cross staff. You should have seen with what complete attention and interest each one in this group listened to all Miss Tracy had to tell us about you and the work on the Islands. There was very sincere appreciation of it, I can assure you. We have been delighted to get your little notes saying that the surprise packages of bon voyage presents pleased you. Miss Christine Nuno, who sends them out from the New York office, takes the greatest pains
