May 16, 1935 Miss Genevieve Leprestre 56 Lucretia Place Portland, Oregon My dear Miss LePrestre: We are making one more effort to receive satisfactory evidence of citizenship from you in order that we may grant you favorable consideration for enrollment. We are enclosing our Evidence of Citizenship form. As you were born in Paris, France and both your father and mother were French citizens, even though you have not stated the citizenship of your father you are only a. citi- zen of the United States through two ways; either your father became a naturalized citizen of the United States before you became of age, which would have made you a citizen, or you have taken out your naturalization papers. Therefore the enclosed paper should be filled in from the information either on your father's naturalization paper or your own. Since you did not answer the question relative to your father's citizenship we, of course, are under the im- pression that he never became an American citizen. We explained to you that the information as you sent it in was not the evi- dence we had to file. If you were able to obtain an American passport it was because you are a citizen and we must have the information regarding the naturalization of either yourself or your father before you became of age. We will be glad to hold this matter pending until this question has been filled in according to the information on the naturalization papers. If you still do not understand this situation we are sure if you will go. to the proper office in Portland, Oregon it would be explained to you. We are sending a copy of this letter to the Secretary of our State and Local Com- mittee also asking her to get in touch with you. Very sincerely yours Clara D. Noyes Chairman, National Committee IFB/img Red Cross Nursing Service
