    "ocrText": "AREA OFFICE AND\nMay 11, 1943\nADVISED\nVIA AIR MAIL\n1943\nMiss Florence Elizabeth Little\n261 County Road\nBarrington, Rhode Island\nMy dear Miss Little:\nWe are now in a position to offer you an appointment as staff nurse\nwith one of the civilian emergency hospitals in the Hawaiian Islands which\nis under the jurisidction of the Emergency Medical and Hospital Pervice of\nthe Territorial Office of Civilian Defense in the Territory of Hawaii. This\nposition carries the salary of $112.50 per month, including full maintenance\nand the laundering of your uniforms. Your salary will start from the time\nyou take your Oath of Office in San Francisco, 3.3 will also the terms of\nyour employment with the Office of Civilian Defense, in accordance with the\nemployment regulations enclosed.\nAs you have noted, we have advised you to take your own hospital\ncape. However, we shall supply you with three Red Cross cape and eight Red\nCross insignia to be worn on your uniforms. These are now being sent from\nour Supply Department and should reach you within a. short time. This equip-\nment is in the form of a loan and you will be expected to return it to this\noffice whenever you terminate your service there.\nThe required immunizations are smallpox, triple typhoid and tetanus\ntoxoid. If you have not been vaccinated for smallpox within the past year, a\nrepeat vaccination is advised. As both the tetanus and typhoid inoculations\nare given in a series covering several weeks, you will need to start these at\nonce. If your immunizations are not completed before you leave home, arrange\nto take the medication with you, and if an inoculation comes due while you are\nin San Francisco, please get in touch with Miss Gladyce Badger, Civic Auditorium,\nLarkin & Grove Streets, who is in charge of our Pacific Area Office, and who\nwill make arrangements for this to be given. Enclosed are duplicate immuniza-\ntion forms. One is to be returned to this office, the other you will keep with\nyou at all times. In case your inoculations have not been completed before you\nleave the Mainland, please return one immunization register to this office,\nindicating the time that the series will have been completed.\nEnclosed please find the following:\n1. Employment regulations\n2. Supplementary information\n3. Duplicate immunization registers"
