AREA OFFICE AND May 11, 1943 ADVISED VIA AIR MAIL 1943 Miss Florence Elizabeth Little 261 County Road Barrington, Rhode Island My dear Miss Little: We are now in a position to offer you an appointment as staff nurse with one of the civilian emergency hospitals in the Hawaiian Islands which is under the jurisidction of the Emergency Medical and Hospital Pervice of the Territorial Office of Civilian Defense in the Territory of Hawaii. This position carries the salary of $112.50 per month, including full maintenance and the laundering of your uniforms. Your salary will start from the time you take your Oath of Office in San Francisco, 3.3 will also the terms of your employment with the Office of Civilian Defense, in accordance with the employment regulations enclosed. As you have noted, we have advised you to take your own hospital cape. However, we shall supply you with three Red Cross cape and eight Red Cross insignia to be worn on your uniforms. These are now being sent from our Supply Department and should reach you within a. short time. This equip- ment is in the form of a loan and you will be expected to return it to this office whenever you terminate your service there. The required immunizations are smallpox, triple typhoid and tetanus toxoid. If you have not been vaccinated for smallpox within the past year, a repeat vaccination is advised. As both the tetanus and typhoid inoculations are given in a series covering several weeks, you will need to start these at once. If your immunizations are not completed before you leave home, arrange to take the medication with you, and if an inoculation comes due while you are in San Francisco, please get in touch with Miss Gladyce Badger, Civic Auditorium, Larkin & Grove Streets, who is in charge of our Pacific Area Office, and who will make arrangements for this to be given. Enclosed are duplicate immuniza- tion forms. One is to be returned to this office, the other you will keep with you at all times. In case your inoculations have not been completed before you leave the Mainland, please return one immunization register to this office, indicating the time that the series will have been completed. Enclosed please find the following: 1. Employment regulations 2. Supplementary information 3. Duplicate immunization registers
