Res 40289 261 County Road, Barrington, R.I. March 28,1943. Mrs. Ernestine Amick, Asistant to Pirecto R. RECEIVED C. MAILROOM American Red Cross, Washington, D.C. MAR $11943 1943 REFERRED TO My dear Mrs.Amick; NURSING Thank you for your kindly explanatory letter. I am relieved about some things, but rather upset about others. Apparently the people here have put their interpretation of the needs, and perhaps per- sonal wishes, ahead of sharing in the War service. I have a note of permission to leave for any service that might be asked of me, written by the Chairman of our Board, in February, 1941, and stating that I"had the unan- imous approval of the Board to serve, as and when, called! At seems that that did not mean quite what it said. As far as leaving the Association in any dilemma, that too, had been cared for, as one of our local, gradu- ate married nurses would have taken over, and was fully prepared to do so. However, there is no use crying over it,but I would be glad if you would register me for any necessary war service, for which I might possibly eligibl I have written Mrs. Doherty at the Providence Office and hope that somehow, somewhere I can still be of use. It is a bitter pill to swallow, to learn that you are not
